Choose Your Shoes

Bowling shoes are the most ignored and overlooked piece of bowling equipment. Many bowlers just don’t realize the importance of a good quality and comfortably fitting bowling shoe.

Bowling shoes are made with a “sliding” sole that allows bowlers to slide with their sliding foot during the last step of their approach. This sole is generally made of leather or of a
synthetic-type leather. A proper and consistent slide is very important in the execution of a good bowling shot.

The Athletic or tennis shoe style bowling shoe is made with a “sliding sole” on both shoes. This type of shoe is an excellent choice for beginners or for bowlers who bowl once a week or less.

The competitive style shoe has a “sliding sole” on one of the shoes for the sliding foot only. The other shoe for the “push off” foot has rubber on it to assist the bowler in a strong and stable “push off” into the slide. Since the slide sole is placed on only one of the shoes in a competitive style pair of bowling shoes, these shoes are labeled as right-handed (slide sole will be on the left shoe) or left-handed (slide sole will be on the right shoe). This type of shoe is recommended for bowlers that want to improve their game and for bowlers who bowl more than once a week.

Bowling shoes have come a long way Baby! Just like in bowling balls, the technology in bowling shoes has created another valuable tool for the bowler to use in their quest to
tumble the pins! There are competitive style shoes that allow the bowler to adjust their slide distance by changing out the slide sole and or the heel pad on the sliding foot.
Examples of this type of shoe are the Dexter SST4, SST5, or SST6. (see pictures)
Therefore, if a bowler is having problems with their slide on a given approach condition, with this type of shoe the bowler now has the ability to conquer that problem!

The great thing about any type of bowling shoe is that they all come in a great variety of styles and colors for men, women, and children.
